WBL Presentation-single job role

Art Director

First of all we researched into the general roles of an art director.
An art director over looks the art aspects within different mediums, for example ..newspaper, magazines, ad campaigns, book covers and films.  We found this on
http://mediacareers.about.com/od/mediajobprofiles/a/ArtDirector.htm this website explains the fundamentals of what an art director does and is expected to do within her/his role.

Art Director Within Films

We started by looking on "The Lord Of The rings" website and we reviewed, different job titles until we found our Art Director.  Which was, Joe Bleakly.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

Joe Bleakly controls all the artistic aspects within this film.
"its the job of the art director to create everything that the camera sees inline with what the director wants it to look like"

http://www.careers.govt.nz/jobs/entertainment/art-director-filmtelevisionstage/about-the-job

Bleakly also works in different ways within his job role which means sometimes he has to change to an off-set art director in which he has to focus on getting the set ready before filming.

We have also researched into art directors within the illustration industry.  We looked into the art director of "varoom" magazine Fernando gutierrez.

https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&gs_rn=12&gs_ri=psy-  In this magazine the art director has to decided on what images goes where and what image completes the other.  He has the final say over the layout. When you look through the Varoom magazine, you can tell that Gutierrez ,has carefully considered the layout.

Various artists may create or develop specific parts of an art piece or scene; but it is the charge of a sole art director to supervise and unify the vision. In particular, the art director is in charge of the overall visual appearance and how it communicates visually, stimulates moods, contrasts features, and psychologically appeals to a target audience. The art director makes decisions about visual elements used, what artistic style to use, and when to use motion.
One of the most difficult problems that art directors face is to translate desired moods, messages, concepts, and underdeveloped ideas into imagery. During the brainstorming process, art directors, co-workers, and clients are engaged in imagining what the finished piece or scene might look like. However, it is the Art director final decision on what desired imagery goes in the product and where.

Law and Order

Hungry Robot Farmer
This is my final design for Ben's workshop
 Bodmin tortoise thief
My final image for local crime. I decided to use collage for this piece as I liked the idea of creating separate little items and animals to go into my pet shop crime scene. I am happy with the final outcome particularly my characters facial expression, I think I've captured the mischievous feigned innocence I was going for.

Law and Order Stage 2 Final Piece

The website for the news : http://www.thisisdevon.co.uk/Drunken-Dartmouth-ferry-pirate-woman-jailed/story-16936249-detail/story.html

This is my chosen Final Piece for stage 2, inspired by David Hughes and Brett Affrunti.

Guess Who - Melancholy, Robotic, Astronaut

Out of all the characters from the idea development sheets, this robot stood out the most, as it communicated the  the chosen words best. With the melancholic expression on its face even though robots shouldn't have any, and the way it's sat really gives off a melancholic feel and plus the helmet and rocket ship in the background shows that the robot is an astronaut.

Scene of a crime- Murder scene

Inspired by Brett Affrunti, using  colour  pallet for 'Bar Hit' was used to colour this image.

I tried to create a similar effect as Affrunti by using sugar paper to create similar texture. I wanted to show the  scene of the crime during and after and by using more vibrant colours for the characters makes it easier to understand the concept of the image as they are basically two different scenes put into one. his is my favourite Crime scene piece because of the scanning effect, where the characters have a 3D effect. made the murderer look as thought he is coming out of the page.

Stage 2 final piece

This is my final piece for stage 2. I am pleased with the outcome as it has different textures which makes the mackerel stand out, as they are the focus of the crime. I also like the sepia tones as if the colours were too bright it would take over the piece.

Law and order

The crime I chose is here -> http://www.thisisdevon.co.uk/Attack-broom-nearly-killed-prisoner/story-17557574-detail/story.html

haven't done a background with characters before, personally I thought it went rather well, although the perspective looks a bit...odd, i'm reasonably happy with it. ^_^
