This is my final piece for the "scene of a crime" workshop. I decided to focus on an arson attack as I liked the effects I created from earlier experimentation with pastels, bleach and collage. I used black acrylic paint for the background, then selected a number of pieces of furniture from an Argos catalogue to make up the interior of a living room, whilst trying to create a sense of perspective. I then stuck them down, and began ripping at them to make them look damaged as they would be if there was a fire. I went over the furniture, floor and walls with black, grey and white pastels to create an ash effect. I got the idea from looking at photos of rooms that actually had been damaged as a result of an arson attack. I think this piece reflects this crime well without it being too "over the top" obvious.
