Sherlock Holmes

Done on photoshop (obviously) from a scree shot from the movie.
The Quote is also from the movie, I used this quote as it more or less sums up sherlock's eccentric personality and his 'unorthodox' meathods, I aso thought that it went pretty well with the image.

Ace Ventura Doodle Box!

Doodle box project / Detective portraits

I used a tea-bag box for my creation, by cutting down one of the folds I was able to keep the box as box like as possible,  so when I came to reconstructing it, it would be as rigid as it once was.

I used the stencil that I created for the fake screen printing for the face, which I then cut out by hand with a scalpel. For the vines on the other sides of the box I created a simple tessellating pattern, that would be quite easy to cut out.

By combining the two briefs, I decided on a stencil based box, which combined my favourite things; Cutting and making. My idea was to have a completely "see through" box, with the simple pattern not deducting from the complex detail of the face.

I am really happy with the result, especially the face which took an extreme amount of patience and dedication to produce it properly.

Hercule Poirot

Of all my adaptations this is my favourite interpretation of Poirot. I was fascinated by Geralds Scalfs work and decided to use a process similar to his. I applied ink using the end of a brush to portray a coarse effect around the ears and to provide greater detail. I emphasised Poirot's significant features using back and red ink.
