Ace Ventura in biro

This is a 10 minute sketch in black biro pen, I've chosen
it as my favourite as I enjoyed the process, I find drawing in biro
is good because it is less time consuming, you cant rub out or undo any mistakes.
I also like this image because I think I've captured Aces expression quite well.

Sherlock Holmes In Pencil

I did a pencil sketch of Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes as part of my Law and Order brief from photo reference, I wanted to study his features accurately to get a good likeness in this drawing. It took a considerable amount of time to get it to the point i was happy with. I would like to re-create this image again if i had the time and re-work it to make it perfect, i used hair-spray to preserve it step by step so that it wouldn't transfer onto the other pages in my sketch book but this meant I couldn't erase and re-work certain areas i wasn't happy with when i decided i wanted to have another go at them, next time I would try to get everything to a point I could work more detail into and that i'm pleased with before spraying it. I have created other portraits like this one, and they take me a very long time to create, i would like to look into some loose pencil sketches next and not focus so heavily on detail.

Poirot on Illustrator

Using Illustrator, I created portraits of Poirot with textures by clip masking outlines to create each section to the textures, and then by using the pen/ pencil tool to add details. These portraits are inspired by the illustrator, Alvaro Tapia who uses textures to create images.

Sherlock: On Illustrator

This is Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes. I used crazy colours  in this image to try and portray his sometimes crazy character.

Another version of Sherlock, mixing up the colour palettes and trying to see what tones work best for showing character.

Holmes Portrait

Poirot using Illustrator

This was my first attempt at using adobe illustrator. I have traced the lines and then used blocks of colour which i have moved slightly to the right and above the lines to give the effect of motion in my illustration.
I have used this image by Fernando Juarez, as my colour palette as i enjoy the blue tones throughout. Image from http://www.illustrationweb.com/artists/FernandoJuarez/view

Illustrator/Photoshop Portraits

Today, you are to attempt to develop two detective portraits. One on Adobe Illustrator and the second on Adobe Photoshop. They may be from the same reference photograph, or a completely different image.

I would like you to consider the styles of the following Illustrators as inspiration, and consider how their images are made:

Funny News - "Woman who eats Sponges"

I found this while researching for stage 2 and couldn't resist doing an illustration and posting it here...

"A woman has told how a rare disorder has led her to eat more than 4,000 washing up sponges."

Kerry Trebilcock, 21, suffers from a condition called pica, which causes victims to crave non-edible objects.
The disorder has also caused her to eat more than 100 bars of soap.
Miss Trebilcock, a dental nurse from Mylor, Cornwall, told The Sun: "One day I will beat this and be able to have a shower or do the washing up without feeling hungry.
"I have been very particular about the type of sponges and soaps I'd eat and how I'd prepare them.
"If I went out for the day I'd carry a small plastic bag of cut-up pieces of sponge with some tomato and BBQ sauce in Tupperware. I was never without a 'snack'."

Ace Ventura - Pet Detective

This is my - so far - favourite Ace Ventura piece. I took the original image from a still from the film and worked on it in pencil, when I was happy with the finished sketch I painted it using water colours, and then used a Ink pen to define my lines. Justin Madson, creator of 'Just Mad Books' was my inspiration for this piece of work, I really love his crisp style of drawing and tried to show this within my work.

Visual Communication - Guess Who (Visual Shortcuts) Task 2

Two Adjective- Victorian, Creepy
Noun- Beast

As a group we came to the conclusion of creating a beast for our noun, as we felt we could experiment a lot with its body features/shapes and colours. We chose the colour green for the body as that colour represents the phrases creepy, slimy and abstract looking. The two adjectives we choose were Victorian                             and creepy, we felt these meanings could work well together due to the props/objects in relation, e.g walking stick, moustache and top hat.

A Victorian top hat, as its sophisticated and a very recognisable fashion statement from that era.
Below is gathered images from the web we have taken inspiration from...
Beast influence (google search cartoon beast), we liked the creatures feet, and positioning of the actual beast, and really liked the  antennas which we thought of making as the eyes.
Beast influence (google search cartoon beast), due to his characteristics, teeth, claws, body shape.

I used pastels for this piece I like how the crumpled paper relates to Columbo's crumpled rain coat.

Ace Ventura-'Yes Satan?'

This is an iconic bold structure of Ace Ventura. I originally used paper cut outs to scan into the computer and digitally manipulated them to create this piece. The quote below is to show comedic characteristics of Ace. The bright green was a substitute for his bright Hawian shirts and nature like aspects.

Sherlock Holmes - Robert Downey Portrait

Visual Communication
Sherlock Holmes
Robert Downey
Illustration

I've used quite a traditional media to produce this portrait, as I really like the various textures and shades you can create using/ with a blue Biro pen. The style of this drawing is very realistic, as that's the style i'm most interested in, as far as portraits are concerned. The drawing is very detailed yet simplistic. I  have taken great influence from 'Joe Ciardiello's     work, due to his unique traditional style, his work combine's very intricate fine lines juxtaposed very bold objects/less detailed areas. I feel this drawing visually communicates Robert Downy/Sherlock Holmes Character.

Poirot

My inspiration for this image was Andy Warhol. I love the mix of colours and think they work well together as a palette

Poirot

Created using Illustrator with vectors to create the shapes, this was inspired by the illustrator, Liam Brazier and is style of creating images through shapes. I really like it because it shows how the character has a sharp side even thought they seem very rounded. :)

5her10ck H01mes.

This is my drawing of Sherlock Holmes as a robot.

I did this because robots are cool and I wanted to emphasise the 'robot' Holmes is known to be as well as see if Holmes' 'old English charm' would be more appealing as a Mechanical being. As I thought, it worked, well for me anyway.

I like the posture I gave Holmes in my drawing. I think it adds to the charm and confidence of Holmes so still keeping in character. It also helps to show off the 'steel sophistication' of Holmes.

My favourite part of my drawing is the 'exhaust pipe' pipe. This was added because, well, i thought it worked. It was more for comical purpose, but ended up greatly enhancing the drawing, giving it my own spin on the image. I think this was the reason I found this image the best because of this unique feature.

Sherlock Holmes
I chose to illustrate John Barrymore's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes because I find that the great contrast between light and shadow help to make his character even more intriguing.

Rick deckard

I really like this portrait of Rick Deckard from Bladerunner because the fineliner has given me the chance to add the effect of various textures using methods such as cross-hatching and stippling.

Ace Ventura

This image of Ace Ventura was created by a pencil drawing and then altered on photoshop. I dont really have an influence to why i created it, but i feel like it has an art noveau style.

Sherlock Holmes

This is from 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'. I wanted to do something with the massive mind map Sherlock did in the film because it shows how his mind works perfectly. But instead of just doing it behind him, I made the lines create Sherlock's face without making it too complicated.

The idea was to show how chaotic but ordered his mind can be and how he figures things out, connecting all of the evidence and clues together to come to a conclusion.

poirot

This was one of my favorite drawings of Poirot,
simply because i thought it captured all aspects of his jolly but focused attitude to solving murder crimes.
Here is one of my illustrations of Ace Ventura, this was produced as a left-handed black biro drawing. It's not my favourite but i think its quirky and simplistic. I have many more to draw up yet!

This is my digital portrait of Ace Ventura, I like it because it's pretty. It's sort of an old school tattoo flash style. I like the heavy black shading and simple colouring.

Ace Ventura Influenced By Artist Ben Heine

I looked at a Belgian artist called Ben Hiene, his work mostly consists of creating images with circles. By using digital tools he creates images of people of fame, for example Elvis Presley.

The image to the right was created by me through the influence of Ben. The image itself took me over 9 hours to complete, every circle was digitally drawn. The colours used in the image are from the image i collected off of the internet respectively.

The difference between Ben Hiene's work and mine is that he has larger circles and a background. Also he has taken more time to get all of the dimensions etc correct.

Sherlock

I used watercolour and fineliner to create this version of Sherlock Holmes as portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. I chose this particular quote from the TV series to accompany it, I feel it is very fitting!

LT. Columbo

This image was inspired by an illustrator Mr Bingo. I thought I'd add the main features to my character Lt. Columbo which in this case his old school hair style and his raincoat with half a cigar constantly in his hand.

Rick Deckard

Rick Deckard, drawn in pencil as an observational drawing. this image shows the character of Deckard in a fairly typical way, looking serious in a large trenchcoat.

Hercule Poirot Caricature!

Here are just two illustrations that I have made for our "Detectives Portraits" project.  Out of a list of famous fictional detectives I chose to do illustrations based on Hercule Poirot!

The drawing on the left is the first step I made on the caricature of Poirot.  I was just playing with the ideas to being with, but I wanted to develop it further into a finished piece.

With this image I have taken inspiration from Steve Brodner, who does caricatures of famous people (mostly politicians).  I think that Poirot has quite a round body figure, so I used this as the basis of my drawing.

I've used watercolours for this image working in the same medium as Brodner.
